Sony’s Justification for Proprietary Memory Cards

As was expected and I previously posted, Sony Division 2 software lead Muneki Shimada spoke in an interview and attempted to answer criticisms of Sony’s choice to use proprietary memory cards.  According to Shimada, proprietary cards were made to ensure that all customers were provided with a consistent experience that will avoid format and transfer issues as there are various speeds and classes of SD cards.  Shimada also mentioned that the cards will help deal with security concerns.  The PSP, the first Sony handheld, was constantly plagued with firmware hacks that lead to the piracy of video games and movies.  Now more than ever, with the sudden trend of hacking making its splash in the digital world, security is of the utmost importance and a fair justification.
