PlayStation Vita’s Memory Cards Are Very Pricey

PlayStation Vita, Sony’s next handheld, will be released next year on February 22 and it looks very promising.  However, Sony recently dropped a bomb on their loyal consumers: the price of the memory cards.  While standard SD card prices have dropped dramatically Sony chose to go a different route with a special proprietary card.  It would seem Sony found a promising profit margin.  These suckers are going to cost as much as half the price of the Vita itself at $120 for the 32GB card while an SD card of that size you can get for as low as $30.

It looks like if you want a PS Vita next year you better start saving up now.  It’s hard for me to believe that there wasn’t any other reason besides making a profit to manufacture proprietary cards specific to their own system.  Perhaps Sony will release a statement that will at least try to justify their reasoning as they are under plenty of scrutiny after they announced the price of these cards.  Just google “PS Vita memory cards” and you will see what I mean.

Do you think Sony is crossing the line or are they just trying to make an honest buck? Tell me in the comments section.
