New Xbox Live Dashboard Release Date Confirmed

According to Xbox Live’s Major Nelson the new Xbox dashboard will be released on December 6th and will be free to all console owners (internet connection is required).  The new dashboard will sport a different aesthetic design similar to that of the Windows Phone containing channels containing boxes filled with live information.  The channels are listed across the top of the user interface and looks much less confusing to navigate than the current dashboard.

Included with the update are a number of new features. One of the biggest is the integration of Kinect so that the dashboard can be controlled through voice or gesturing.  Microsoft will also be adding cloud storage for saved game files and profile data.  Some new social features include beacons that allow you to share, with all your friends at once, which game you would like to play, what game mode within that game and when.  This eliminates the hassle of sending multiple messages or invites to friends.  There will also be Facebook implementation.

This is a big update and in my opinion a much needed aesthetic change from the clunky confusing channel menus of the current dashboard.  It would seem Microsoft is buying into the tradition of giving during the holidays. Thanks Bill Gates!

You are definitely right about that! Microsoft loves to try to be unique and innovative. They never succeed and it always pisses me off they standardize their products so much that nothing else works with them and they become easily outdated. I have to admit I am looking forward to this dashboard update though!
